Loving this, although I’d like to read some details - how the decks were linked, and what decks were used.

It’s when you see something like this you remember the horrors of analogue videotape. Crazy rainbow stripes and things. Bleh!

How to use VLC to rebroadcast the BBC 6Music WMA stream as a mono MP3 stream over HTTP. What I’m using to get it on my Chumby.

First post from my new phone

So… I’ve got a new phone. An HTC Desire. It’s probably the fanciest gadget I’ve ever owned! Literally fresh off the ship, stopping by the T-Mobile warehouse overnight, and into my mits.

What can I tell you about it? It’s essentially the same phone as the Google Nexus One. A tweak here and there but there’s virtually no difference to report. Same version of Android too, but with HTC’s UI enhancements swishing things up.

It’s an excellent operating system running on stellar hardware. 1 ghz processor, 576 mb RAM, a gorgeous AMOLED screen with the same resolution as my Eee PC (but about a quarter of the area - so pin sharp), capacitive multitouch… awesome kit. The on-screen keyboard is incredibly impressive (I am, after all, still typing this on it). Camera is more than adequate - I’d been spoilt by the Carl Zeiss optics on my Nokia N95, so I suspected I’d be downgrading in this department, but the Desire isn’t bad at all. Still has autofocus, flash and a 5 megapixel sensor, just less fancy optics. Video recording’s not so great but still good enough. Markedly better than the iPhone 3g.

And that’s an important thing to note. In terms of hardware, this phone is way better than the iPhone. In terms of software I much prefer Android to the iPhone’s OS. I say this as someone who, not that long ago, was pricing up an iPhone so I say that after quite a lot of research! That said, I’m perfectly aware that Betamax was superior to VHS…

ANYWAY. I’m now rambling whilst tapping a phone’s screen. Take it from me, the Desire is a nice bit of kit and, so far, I’m very very happy with it.
